Mission Local invited AMEL President Mohamed Abubakr to Manny’s in San Fransisco to speak about the Sudan revolution. Abubakr discussed his human rights advocacy for the MENA region, why the revolution happened in Sudan, and what work was done by the Sudanese people leading up to the revolution.

The Stanford University Public Policy Program featured AMEL in their “Public Policy Events” Section of their Newsletter. The Newsletter discussed how Public Policy graduates met with AMEL and a year later AMEL members visited Stanford to speak in a talk titled “Young Leaders and the Fight Against Human Rights Abuses”.

The Stanford Career Education Newsletter featured an interview with AMEL Executive Director Megan Hallahan in the “Off the Farm” section. In the interview, Hallahan discusses her trajectory from college to her role with AMEL, the student organizations she was involved with in college, and gives advice to students interested in pursuing a career in non-profit organizations.

The Idaho Statesman published an article titled “Human Rights Week at BSU continues Thursday, recounting fight against Aryan Nations” written by AMEL President Mohamed Abubakr. In the article, Abubakr discusses the Syrian refugee crisis and stresses the importance of humanizing responses to the crises and offering compassion to the refugees. The Idaho Statesman also mentioned that Abubakr would be featured as a speaker at Boise State’s Frank Church Conference.

The Hill published an article titled “Comprehensive Dropping of Sanctions Against Sudan would be a Terrible Mistake” written by AMEL President Mohamed Abubakr and AMEL board member Richard Weir. In the article, Abubakr and Weir caution against easing sanctions on the Sudanese government and instead advocate in favor of taking a human rights angle to the issue.
