Young Leaders Gather at WBG Global Summit

AMEL engaged today with hundreds of young leaders from all across the globe at the 2019 World Bank Youth Summit in Washington, DC.

Established in 2013, the Youth Summit is an annual event hosted by the World Bank Group (WBG) to engage with youth globally on the most pressing topics facing our generation. The Summit aims to empower youth to explore innovative ideas to tackle emerging development challenges; to provide youth with the tools to build and engage in impactful projects; and to promote dialogue between youth, the WBG, and other key stakeholders globally.

The 2019 WBG Youth Summit is a two-day interactive event, taking place at the World Bank Headquarters from December 2-3, 2019. The theme for the 2019 Summit is “Smarter Cities for a Resilient Future”. With the world increasingly urbanizing, cities are places of opportunity: 80% of global GDP is created in cities, helping hundreds of millions lift themselves out of extreme poverty. Over recent decades, cities have become a magnet for talent, investment, and for youth seeking a prosperous future.

Among other topics, AMEL staff and volunteers discussed with Summit delegates about the AMEL Institute and efforts to raise the voices of activists in the halls of power in the global north. Other partners exhibiting at the WBG Summit Innovation Marketplace include USAID, the Global Peace Foundation, Rotary International, the WBG ITS Technology & Innovation Lab and WBG Youth-to-Youth Network, among several others.
