We are happy to announce the launch of Advocates for Gender Equality, a new volunteer-led initiative aims to raise awareness and build momentum for gender parity through sub-regional working groups, beginning with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The MENA Advocates for Gender Equality (AGE) initiative is developed and led by Hadil Alashwal, an activist who was raised in Yemen and lived in different countries in the Middle East, Europe and North America. Her experience with gender inequality in different cultures has come to play a seminal role in shaping her perspective and commitment to promote gender justice in MENA and all around the world.
MENA AGE is committed to advancing gender equality in the Middle East and North Africa by creating engaging and educational videos and articles that discuss gender issues in the region. The content will explore women and girls’ issues in MENA as well as highlight inspiring stories, case studies and reports of the widespread positive impact of gender equality on people and countries. This goes hand in hand with AMEL ‘s vision which aims to empower young activists from the MEA region, and connects them with one another and with peers, leaders and audiences in the global north, in order to advance human rights for all human beings.
The objectives of the MENA AGE are the following:
