We’ve been busy this summer at the AMEL Institute where nearly 200 young leaders from all over the Middle East and Africa (MEA) have been taking their knowledge, skills and networks to the next level! Ranging in age from 18 to 35 and coming from over 40 countries across the MEA region, the trainees have been completing weekly online modules since early July. Participants were selected for the program based on their experience and vision in advancing dignity and rights for all. AMEL’s training curriculum is taught by a combination of experienced activists and top international experts and covers the topics of:
· Human rights
· Activism safety and wellbeing, including mental health
· Genocide history and prevention, including Holocaust education
· Democratic development
· Conflict transformation and peace
· Communication tools and techniques, including storytelling, public speaking, videomaking and online advocacy
Each module includes a series of lecture videos, a quiz, a live Q&A session with a lecturer and ongoing asynchronous discussions. Each live session also includes time for trainees to network with one another in small groups as there is great value in exchanging know-how and building connections among activists.
The online training is centralized on a newly launched AMEL Institute website designed to facilitate online learning and cooperation. Lectures videos and transcripts are available in English, Arabic and French and supplemental discussion sessions in Arabic and French have further improved accessibility of the program.
Stay tuned for more updates as the AMEL Institute Summer 2022 program concludes!
