The New Voices Series - An Interview with AMEL Speaker Ruwan Al-Rejoleh
Q: What do you do and what is one issue you care about the most?
A: In addition to being an AMEL Speaker, I am a consultant, researcher, and strategic communication specialist. Currently, I am running my own consultancy, TGC, which focuses on providing geopolitical advisory services in the Middle East & North Africa. Being an American from Syrian descent inspires me to build bridges between different worlds. I care about finding common ground and creating an environment for the world’s youth to work closely for peace and prosperity in their countries.
Q: Why did you decide to get involved with AMEL and what makes AMEL different?
A: AMEL's mission to mobilize, empower and unite millennial leaders from the Middle East and Africa to build resilient, inclusive societies is exactly the formula that can help create bridges of harmony in the region. It resonates with my world’s view and my values system. AMEL's uniqueness is with its different approaches to tackling sensitive issues such as addressing hate speech against Muslims and Jews. These unique approaches are what makes AMEL different in my opinion. At the same time, AMEL gives participants the safe space to engage with each other, which is crucial when encounters across conflict lines take place for the very first time.
Q: How has AMEL impacted you?
A: Being part of AMEL gave me the opportunity to meet and listen to aspiring future leaders in the region. AMEL doesn't only focus on activism but also is involved with policymakers and advocacy in the U.S., which helps the future leaders have their voice heard by the most influential decision-makers in Washington DC.
